Cameron Dicker named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week following fantastic NFL debut

Cameron Dicker made his NFL debut with the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend, and now he’s captured an honor that each kicker in the NFC strives for every time they hit the field.

The former Texas great was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, rewarded for his work filling in for injured Eagles kicker Jake Elliott. During the showdown with the Arizona Cardinals, Dicker made both of his field goal attempts and two point-after attempts, including a game-winning 23-yard field goal.

After going undrafted and being cut from multiple practice squads, Dicker recognizes that nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. Regardless, he’ll be able to have his name in the history books forever, no matter what the future holds.

Whether it’s with the Eagles or another team, Cameron Dicker has proven he can hold his own in the NFL. With the amount of turnover the kicker position faces week-in and week-out, the former Longhorns great will be able to find work for the foreseeable future.

Continuing, Dicker entered the 2022 NFL Draft but was not selected. In fact, only one team spent draft capital on a kicker with Cade York being picked by the Cleveland Browns. Stints with teams have been short for Dicker thus far.

Earlier, Dicker was a part of two NFL franchises, with both the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams having had the Texas Longhorns special teams great on their practice squad. Neither has worked out but now, the Eagles have helped make his dreams come true.

Throughout the Tom Herman era in Austin and early in Steve Sarkisian’s days, Dicker was a fan favorite among the Texas supporters. He’s most famous for hitting the game-winning kick against Oklahoma during the 2018 Red River Showdown, where Fox broadcaster Gus Johnson gave him the nickname “Dicker the Kicker.” 

Dicker was reliant for the Longhorns, hitting 75.9% of his field goal attempts and 98.1% of his extra points. Only four extra points were missed out of 210 attempts, with one coming each season.
