Having not practiced this week with an ankle injury that he sustained against the San Francisco 49ers last weekend, Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield is doubtful for Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. He is the only player carrying that designation for them this weekend on the Panthers injury report.

ESPN NFL reporter David Newton added that interim Panthers head coach Steve Wilks said PJ Walker will be starting at quarterback. Mayfield had a positive workout, Wilks said according to Newton, and the team is waiting for results of the latest MRI. Mayfield “could be the backup,” Wilks said.

Six other Panthers are listed as questionable and three of them are cornerbacks: Jaycee Horn, CJ Henderson and Donte Jackson.

Horn and Jackson both did not practice on Friday. Horn has not practiced all week with a rib injury after getting dinged against the 49ers. Jackson was a late addition to the report as a limited participant on Thursday and he did not practice on Friday with a listed ankle injury.

Henderson has been limited in practice all week with a knee injury.

According to Newton, Wilks expects Henderson and Jackson to play as the starting corners on Sunday against the Rams and Horn appears to be trending toward not playing.

The other questionable Panthers for this weekend include linebacker Frankie Luvu, who has been limited the past two practices with a shoulder injury and two new Friday additions: guard Cameron Erving and wide receiver Robbie Anderson.

Neither practiced on Friday after not being on the injury report prior. Anderson is listed with an illness and Erving has a groin injury.

Out for the Panthers again this weekend are wide receiver Laviska Shenault and cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver, with respective hamstring and thigh injuries.

And the players carrying no designation: wide receiver D.J. Moore, tight end Stephen Sullivan and safety Xavier Woods. All three were full participants on Friday.
