Dallas Cowboys corner Trevon Diggs has been soaking up the praise over his play to start the season. This week former All-Pro receiver Chad Johnson had the honor of unveiling quite possibly his biggest accomplishment yet.

In a video released on Twitter, Johnson unveiled the latest adjustments to player’s ratings in Madden 22. Madden is the flagship football game for the NFL. And NFL players have been known to take their Madden ratings quite seriously.

Digg saw an increase in three categories most notably in his overall. Diggs catching ability increase three points going from a 78 to an 81. Plus that new catching rating is tied for third-best amongst corners in the game. His play recognition increased four points from a 76 to an 80. Those two changes increased Diggs overall from a 75 to now a 77.

Cause for the increase

Diggs is the Cowboys’ second-round pick out of Alabama in the 2020 draft. To kickoff this NFL season, he elevated his play to an elite level. Because of that, he was named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Month for September. In the month of September, he has an interception in all three games. He picked off Tom Brady in Week 1 on a short pass to running back Leonard Fournette, doubling as the team’s first interception on the season. In Week 2, he snatched a pass by Justin Herbert on the Chargers’ first drive of the game. And finally, in Week 3, he had a pick-six on Jalen Hurts to start the second half of Monday night’s game with the Eagles.

In last week’s game, Diggs intercepted two passes versus the Carolina Panthers to help secure the win Sunday. His total is up to five interceptions this season, which leads the NFL. And with those two interceptions, he cemented his name in Cowboys lore. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound corner is the first Cowboy since 1961 (Don Bishop) with an interception in each of the first 4 games of a season. And he’s the first Cowboy since 1968 (Chuck Howley) with five interceptions in the team’s first four games of a season.

Diggs is feeling the love

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones dished up a compliment to cornerback Diggs in typical Jones fashion.

“A receiver faking it as a d-back,” Jones said via the Dallas Morning News. “He plays that ball and makes those special plays. And obviously, he’s not only got talent, but by the way, he’s worked to get in position to make those plays. He’s a difference-maker.”

A two-point increase in overall may not be the major bump in overall we all expected, but it is a start. And if he can keep this play up, who knows; maybe next year he’ll find himself as a member of the Madden 99 club.
