WATCH: Chiefs safety Justin Reid drills a 65-yard field goal in training camp

Finding a good kicker in the National Football League is no easy task. Today, Chiefs safety Justin Reid showed that he’ll be ready to go in case something happens to their starting kicker, Harrison Butker. The former Stanford star pulled off the unthinkable on Sunday in training camp, drilling a 65-yard field goal.

You’ve got to see it to believe it.

Simply an unreal kick by Reid. Apparently, he’s already been well-known for his kicking ability, since he replaced Texans’ kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn in a preseason game last year, after Fairbairn was injured in pregame warmups. Check that one out below.

That kickoff was another bomb, too. Simply put, Reid’s kicking ability is ridiculous. It shows just what an incredible athlete he truly is. To put it in perspective, there was only one kicker in the National Football League last year that hit a field goal over 65 yards and that was Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens (future Hall-of-Famer). Tucker drilled a record-setting 66-yarder against the Detroit Lions to win the game in the closing seconds.

Reid talked about kicking for the Texans in a game

“I had the time of my life,” Reid said. “I’ve been looking forward to this moment for so long. I can’t tell you how excited I was when the coaches said, ‘You’re up this game.’ And I was like, ‘Really, I get one?’ They said, ‘No, you’re up the whole game.’ So I was so excited to be out there. It was a dream come true.”

Playing kicker at the professional level wasn’t just some crazy pipe dream for Reid. While he’s predominantly focused on the defensive side of the ball, he’s played the position since high school. In high school, Reid kicked and played safety. Then, in college at Stanford, he was the emergency kicker for the Cardinal, and he was also the emergency kicker for the Texans. 

Reid signed with the Chiefs this offseason, after they inked him to a three-year $31.5 million deal that includes $20 million guaranteed.
