Report: Steelers downgrade Chris Boswell to out, sign free agent kicker prior to Philadelphia game
The Pittsburgh Steelers have an interesting roster situation brewing ahead of a showdown with the NFL’s lone remaining unbeaten team, the Philadelphia Eagles. They may be without a kicker, with starter Chris Boswell out on Sunday.
According to a report from ESPN NFL Nation reporter Brooke Pryor, Pittsburgh has ruled kicker Chris Boswell (right groin) out for the game. The Steelers also ruled cornerback Josh Jackson (groin) out.
With Boswell downgraded, Pittsburgh had to go sign a kicker.
Pryor reported on ESPN that Pittsburgh scooped up free agent Nick Sciba. Sciba is a rookie out of Wake Forest and has not yet kicked in a regular-season NFL game.
Sciba was 80-of-89 on field goal attempts at Wake Forest in a four-year career from 2018-21. He had a career long of 49 yards. He made 193 extra points during his career with the Demon Deacons.
But with a new kicker on the roster, how Pittsburgh handles borderline situations will be interesting. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are slated to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on CBS on Sunday.

Pittsburgh injury report not all bad news
Though the injury news with Chris Boswell out isn’t very good for Pittsburgh, the Steelers did get some good news on the injury front this week as well.
Namely that star defender T.J. Watt has returned to practice.
“Linebacker T.J. Watt returned to practice today, his first day back after being placed on the Reserve/Injured List on Sept. 15,” wrote the franchise. “The Steelers have a 21-day window to either activate Watt to the 53-man roster, or he remains on the Reserve/Injured List for the remainder of the season.”
“Watt was placed on the list after suffering a pectoral injury against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 of the season. … The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, had a sack and an interception in the win over the Bengals, before leaving the game with the injury. … Without Watt in the lineup, the defense is currently ranked 28th overall in the NFL, and 18th against the run.”
