Report: Browns, Panthers in 'active talks' over Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield may be the biggest name left on the trade market, with the Cleveland Browns looking to move off of their former No. 1 overall pick. There have been a few teams reportedly interested in taking Mayfield off their hands, with the Carolina Panthers being one of the hottest names.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Carolina and Cleveland are in “active” talks over a potential trade with the quarterback. The Panthers would want the Browns to pick up “a good chunk” of Mayfield’s contract if the move is completed.
Long term, Mayfield is not in the plans for Cleveland after trading for Deshaun Watson. Even though there may be a suspension coming for the former Houston signal-caller, it’s looking unlikely the Browns will want to be Mayfield on the roster.
Mayfield is currently in the final season of his rookie contract after being taken No. 1 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. No matter which team he plays for next season, he will be owed just over $18 million after the Browns picked up his fifth-year option. Even with the current draft going on, it seems as if the Panthers remain interested in taking Mayfield off Cleveland’s hands.
Head coach Matt Rhule is looking to bring a quarterback to Carolina, even if it’s not Mayfield. However, the four year player could bring valuable experience to the Panthers.

Report: Houston Texans eyeing post-draft trade for Baker Mayfield
As the NFL Draft approached, the big questions were where Jimmy Garoppolo and Baker Mayfield would end up. Well, fans might have to wait until after the draft.
The Houston Texans could be interested in Garoppolo or Mayfield despite liking what they see from Davis Mills, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe. No deal has been closed yet, but Howe added a post-draft trade might not be out of the question for either quarterback.
The Texans aren’t the only team in on the two quarterbacks. The Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers has previously also expressing interest, and the draft will determine a lot about both players’ futures.
Drama brewed between Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns all offseason and he requested a trade on March. 17. The Browns also acquired Deshaun Watson, which means it’s looking more and more likely Mayfield is on his way out the door in Cleveland. His name has come up in trade rumors all offseason, but it’s sounding like the draft could determine a lot about his future.
