Report: Cleveland Browns agree on contract extension with David Njoku

Cleveland has been one of the busiest teams throughout the offseason, making a few franchise-altering moves since the 2021 season ended. One was franchise tagging tight end David Njoku to keep him on the squad for at least another season. However, the Browns have now decided to extend the relationship even further, giving Njoku a fresh contract.

According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Cleveland and Njoku have agreed on a four-year contract worth $56.75 million. Getting $28 million guaranteed, he will now be the fifth highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

“The #Browns and franchise tagged TE David Njoku have reached an agreement in principle on a large new 4-year, $56.75M contract extension, sources tell me and @TomPelissero,” Rapoport said. “He gets $28M guaranteed at signing on the deal that averages $14.1875M per year, the fifth highest paid TE.”

Njoku has spent his entire career with Cleveland after being a first-round pick during the 2017 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at Miami and was the latest Thursday night pick the program was able to produce. It’s paid off thus far as Njoku is cashing in with a big contract.

Cleveland has made sure to get Njoku involved in the offseason every season, as the tight end has at least 50 targets in years he has been fully healthy. During the 2019 season, he only appeared in four games and the following year, missed three.

Njoku has 148 receptions for 1,754 yards and 15 touchdowns. Now that the contract situation is out of the way, he will be hoping to become one of the league’s best and improve his game. There is still room for Njoku to grow and possibly even breakout.

Cleveland Browns sign Jadeveon Clowney to one-year contract

Jadeveon Clowney is returning to the Browns on a one-year deal, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

“#Browns have agreed to terms on a deal with Jadeveon Clowney source tells me,” Cabot tweeted on Sunday.

Additionally, Cabot added the terms of the deal: “#Browns agreement with Jadeveon Clowney, which I reported a few minutes ago, is for 1 year, $11 million, source tells me.”

While the former South Carolina star has been linked to multiple teams, the smoke was never more prevalent than that of a return to Cleveland. Now, it’s coming to fruition. Last season, Clowney amassed 9.0 sacks, 37 total tackles and two forced fumbles for the Browns.
