Shortly after NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp commented that Colin Kaepernick‘s workout with the Raiders was a disaster, his agent responded. Sapp claimed that Kaepernick’s workout was “one of the worst workouts ever” — a claim that Kaepernick’s agent says is proof that Sapp hasn’t spoken to anyone important within the Las Vegas Raiders organization.

Colin Kaepernick’s agent on Warren Sapp

Following the recent claim by Sapp that Kaepernick’s workout was terrible with the Raiders according to his source, agent Jeff Nalley responded to his claims. Nalley highlighted that Kaepernick’s workout was well received by anyone important in the franchise, questioning why Sapp would make up a story instead of supporting Kaepernick.

“I guess Warren didn’t talk to the General Manager or the head coach,” Nalley said via Pro Football Talk. “I spoke to the G.M. [Dave Zieger] several times and he said they all thought Kap was in great shape and threw the ball really well and encouraged any team to call him about the workout and he would tell them the same. I’m surprised Warren would say that, because it’s not true and you would think he would want Kap on a team.”

Since his departure from the NFL after becoming a free agent in 2017, Kaepernick has drawn attention across the league for his inability to find a new team to play for. Kaepernick became an incredibly divisive topic around the nation after his practice of taking a knee during the national anthem received mainstream attention. While Kaepernick was not released from his previous team, the San Francisco 49ers, due to his protest efforts — his inability to find any team to offer him a contract led to claims that he was blacklisted from the NFL.

Sapp’s original comments

“I heard it was a disaster. I heard it was one of the worst workouts ever,” said Sapp of Kaepernick’s team workout. “I’m wondering how the hell this happened and the tape didn’t get out, right? I mean, somebody wasn’t over the fence or nothing? C’mon man. We live in a world right now where you can put a drone up, they can’t stop you.”

Sapp’s criticisms seem to contradict what people have said about previous workouts for Kaepernick, including ESPN reports of the May workout in question. However, Sapp is clearly convinced that Kaepernick will never return to the NFL level.
