Cooper Kupp to undergo ankle surgery, will be placed on injured reserve
The Los Angeles Rams have dealt with the hangover from their Super Bowl LVI win throughout the 2022 season. LA currently sits at 3-6 and is dead last in the NFC West. Things won’t be getting any easier for the reigning NFL champs, though, with the latest update on their star wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
Per Sean McVay, Kupp will be undergoing surgery tomorrow to help him recover from a high ankle sprain he suffered against Arizona this weekend. That decision will also earn him a spot on the IR list. That means Los Angeles will be without Kupp for at least the next four games.

Kupp was injured in the fourth quarter of the Ram’s game against the Cardinals. Afterward, McVay’s initial update was that the injury ‘didn’t look good’ and that the news from the medical staff ‘didn’t sound good’. Those initial concerns have come true now as Kupp will miss notable time down the stretch of the season.

After winning the Triple Crown last season, Kupp’s numbers had taken a step back so far this year. The Super Bowl LVI MVP had still been Matthew Stafford’s favorite option by far with 98 targets this season. That kind of target share helped him put up 75 catches for 812 yards and six touchdowns for Los Angeles. All those numbers lead the struggling Rams offense by a wide margin.
If Los Angeles wants to survive this upcoming stretch, finding some way to make up Kupp’s production will be essential. Tyler Higbee will see even more targets, but this is now Allen Robinson’s time to shine as Stafford’s new WR1. Nevertheless, the Ram’s offense as a whole will need to step up as a unit if they want to stay in the race through Kupp’s upcoming absence.
