Head coach Frank Reich is filling out his staff and reportedly added a big name on Saturday. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, DeAngelo Hall will join the Carolina Panthers as an assistant defensive back coach. Spending some time in the media, Hall will now make the jump into coaching.

The #Panthers are hiring three-time Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall as their assistant defensive backs coach, per sources,” Pelissero said. “Hall, who was working as an analyst for NFL Network, has been thinking about coaching since retiring five years ago. Instant credibility in the room.”

Hall never played for the Panthers but was in the division at one point. He began his career with the Atlanta Falcons before spending the majority of his career with Washington. There was even a one-year stint with the former Oakland Raiders.

A couple of records have Hall’s name next to them as well. As you imagine with him being a cornerback, they are interception related. In a 2010 game against the Chicago Bears, Hall was able to record four interceptions in the first half. That’s the most in a single half and game, making a fun piece of history in a successful career.

This will be the first taste of coaching for Hall, who has worked various media jobs since retirement. Done so locally with Washington and on a national level — the NFL Network was his latest stop. Hall also worked radio gamedays with the Washington Commanders beginning in the 2020 season.

Reich has not completely filled out his staff after recently being hired. In fact, Hall is the first defensive guy to join the Panthers. The team’s official site has seven assistant coaches listed and all come from the defensive end.

If Carolina is going to start anywhere on defense, Hall is a solid first hire. He made the Pro Bowl three times throughout his career and will bring a ton of valuable lessons to the franchise.
