Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard had a surprisingly muted response to his very first Pro Bowl bid on Thursday.

Pollard learned of his Pro Bowl selection on Wednesday night, along with his teammates CeeDee Lamb, Zack Martin, DeMarcus Lawrence, Trevon Diggs, Micah Parsons and KaVontae Turpin.

Although it is a big honor for him heading toward contract negotiations this offseason, Pollard told reporters he is focused on “bigger” things than his potential free agency or the Pro Bowl game.

“Right now, I’m not really too focused on that at the moment. We have our eyes on something bigger,” he said, in reference to the team’s postseason push. “Hopefully, I don’t play in it.”

This Saturday, the Cowboys take on the Philadelphia Eagles who are attempting to clinch the NFC title. Dallas locked in their spot in the playoffs on Sunday despite the loss to Jacksonville. In the team’s first matchup versus the Eagles, a 26-17 loss, Pollard had 44 yards on 11 carries.

Ezekiel Elliott tips his cap to Pollard

After 14 games played, the former Memphis star leads the Cowboys’ rushing attack. He has 969 rushing yards and he is averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Although Ezekiel Elliott tops Pollard with 10 rushing touchdowns to his nine, the younger of the two running backs also has three receiving touchdowns.

Elliott, who made the Pro Bowl in 2016, 2018 and 2019, did not receive a bid this year, but he was quick to congratulate his teammate.

“I think they announced it at 8 and he probably hit me up at like 8:01,” the running back said, via Jori Epstein. “He’s the most team-first guy you can think of.”

Pollard told reporters he got a call from team owner Jerry Jones as well after receiving his bid.

“He was just saying how proud he was of me, how it is something I deserved and how he is looking forward to our future,” Pollard said.

The Pro Bowl this year is in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium. Instead of the usual game, the NFL announced that they are opting for a flag football-style format. The game will be on ESPN and ABC on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023.
