The Dallas Cowboys played the second half of Sunday’s 19-9 loss without star receiver CeeDee Lamb. He left the game against the Kansas City Chiefs after a head injury before halftime. As quarterback Dak Prescott threw to the end zone as the second quarter was ending, the pass intended for Lamb was intercepted. On the play, Lamb’s head bounced hard off the ground and Lamb was assisted into the locker room for halftime.

Dak Prescott spoke with reporters after the game, providing an update on Ceedee Lamb’s head injury.

“He said he’s fine,” Prescott said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “He said he would be OK.”

CeeDee Lamb head injury

The Cowboys ended the first half with more frustration after Dak Prescott’s pass was intercepted, taking away a chance at a potential field goal. Unfortunately, the bigger result of the play would be Ceedee Lamb’s head injury. After his helmet bounced off the field, Lamb was examined for a potential concussion in the locker room.

While the Cowboys did not confirm any specific diagnosis, they informed the broadcast team that Lamb was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a head injury.

Lamb had only three catches for 14 yards from Prescott before leaving with injury. The absence of Lamb is compounded by fellow star receiver Amari Cooper’s absence. Cooper was ruled out before Sunday’s game after testing positive for COVID-19. Cooper was not vaccinated, and will be forced to quarantine for at least ten days.

Ceedee Lamb emerged as a go-to option for Dak Prescott with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup coming in and out of the lineup. He has 50 catches for 740 receiving yads and six touchdowns this season, adding five carries for 30 rushing yards.

Ezekiel Elliott limps after tackle

The Dallas Cowboys also saw running back Ezekiel Elliott injured on Sunday, although he would return to the game.

Elliott came off the field early in the game after an awkward tackle where his ankle was pinned under the weight of his tackler. As Elliott caught a short route to the sideline, he was also wrapped up and the tackler’s knee drove down into Elliott’s right ankle. Elliott immediately appeared to be in pain, motioning to the sideline for a substitution as he limped slowly to his team.

Elliott would return to the game midway through the Cowboys next drive, missing only a few snaps on offense. As the Cowboys run plays to both Elliott and Tony Pollard, Elliott’s missing snaps is not uncommon this season.
