Dak Prescott reveals injury suffered against New England Patriots
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott revealed during a postgame appearance he sustained a new injury on Sunday while playing the New England Patriots. Prescott was seen during his postgame appearance wearing a protective boot on his right leg, for what the Cowboys are calling a calf strain.
Dak Prescott injury versus Patriots
After the game, Prescott was seen wearing a protective boot on his right foot. Cowboys fans and media members in attendance were quick to ask if the injury was related to his surgically repaired ankle, but the Cowboys quickly addressed what their initial diagnosis was.
“Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a right calf strain on game-winning overtime play. Will be evaluated further Monday in Dallas,” reported the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken.
The play in question appeared to be standard action for Prescott at the time. Prescott faked a handoff and rolled out to the right side of the field before finding wide receiver CeeDee Lamb for the game-winning touchdown. Gehlken’s report indicates that the strain suffered was a non-contact injury, but that the Cowboys were not significantly concerned on Sunday night.
Prescott himself downplayed the severity of his injury, telling reporters after the game that it was “something we’ll figure out. … The last throw. Came down funny. I’ll be fine. I promise you that.”

Game-winning touchdown pass
The Cowboys ran a staple play of their offense to get Lamb open in overtime, with a play-action pass that saw Prescott roll out to the opposite side of the field. As Lamb ran a deep crossing route that found him in single coverage, he rose his hand to call for the ball as soon as Prescott looked downfield.
Prescott hit Lamb as he was completely open, and Lamb ran the ball into the end zone while slowing down some to taunt his defender. Cornerback Jalen Mills closed the distance and shoved Lamb to the ground after he crossed the goal line, prompting Lamb to jump back up to his feet and wave goodbye to Mills and the Patriots.
Lamb finished his monster game with nine catches for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Cowboys passing game was a key factor in beating the Patriots as they accumulated 12 penalties for 115 yards. Despite these massive setbacks, the Cowboys’ offense managed to gain 567 yards of total offense as they beat the Patriots in most offensive metrics.
The Cowboys ran 82 plays compared to 50 from the Patriots, earning 32 first downs to the Patriots’ 17. The Cowboys out-gained the Patriots by 232 yards of total offense, and both teams forced two turnovers.
