Dak Prescott reveals how he spent his latest Cowboys signing bonus
After spending his rookie signing bonus on a few necessities, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott spent his second signing bonus on something a little more exciting.
“I guess probably at that time a bag of chips from 7-Eleven or something,” Prescott said when asked how he spent his rooking signing bonus. “Or gas. I was already driving and had my car here, so I probably needed gas for it.”
“Probably dinner for the whole family and friends when they all came into town that night. Definitely dinner,” Prescott said of his second deal. “But then I got a Ferrari.”
Prescott signed an eye-popping deal in March
Last spring, the Cowboys avoided tagging Prescott as a franchise player for the second consecutive season. They signed him to a $160 million agreement, including $126 million guaranteed, that keeps him in Dallas through the end of the 2024 season.
Prescott will average $42 million per year, second in the league behind Patrick Mahomes. His $66 million signing bonus surpassed Russell Wilson ($65 million) and Aaron Rodgers ($57.5 million) for the top spot this year.
Cowboys pleased with Prescott’s progress
The quarterback threw 52 passes in a pregame workout this weekend and completed 51 of them. Prescott is recovering from a latissimus strain.

Analyst calls out Kentucky fans
“I guess he went too many. He was supposed to throw 46, he threw 51?” McCarthy joked. He hit the target for number of throws. I got a chance to watch it, I thought he looked good and the most important thing is how he feels afterwards. I thought he had another good day and the opportunity to go back-to-back is important. He’s still building up on the volume of throws.”
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has denied claims that the quarterback will not be ready to start against the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Cowboys’ season opener on Sept. 9.
“He threw with authority and accuracy before [Saturday’s] game,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan before the game, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “If we were lining up against Tampa tonight, he’d be starting, and we’d feel great about it.”
Last week there were reports that Prescott may not be 100 percent all season after dealing with both the shoulder strain and last season’s broken ankle. NBC’s Mike Florio noted Prescott’s throwing motion had changed, suggesting the difference could be related to wanting to put pressure on the healing ankle.
