After his fourth touchdown of the first half, Dak Prescott tied a Dallas Cowboys’ franchise record set by Tony Romo when he led the Cowboys. With his touchdown to Dalton Schultz as the second quarter was ending, Prescott now has 36 touchdown passes this season and has tied the team record. With another touchdown in the second half, he will be the new franchise record-holder.

Prescott ties Romo’s franchise record

Prescott had a monster first half against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night as the Cowboys led 30-17 at halftime. Prescott completed 16 of his 21 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns in the first half. His passer rating came in at 152.8 for the first half.

His effort tied him with Tony Romo as the franchise’s season-record holder, when Romo recorded 36 passing touchdowns on the 2007 Dallas Cowboys team.

Prescott’s four-touchdown half was the second time this season that he put in a day’s work by halftime. Just two weeks ago against the Washington Football Team, Prescott and the Cowboys scored 42 points in the first half as Prescott finished the game on the sideline.

The Cowboys opted to play their starters in the final game of the season despite having secured their playoff spot and division title. Even with a win, Dallas will need a bit of help from other teams to rise up in seeding. Regardless of the injury risk though, Dallas is committed to building momentum as they enter the playoffs.

Highest scoring Cowboys team in history

A 14-yard touchdown pass from Prescott to wideout Cedrick Wilson to start the game put the Dallas Cowboys’ point total for the 2021 season at 486. That is a franchise record, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. The previous record was set by the 1983 team, who scored 479 points.

Although the 2021 season is different due to the newly added 17th game in the regular season, Dallas did manage to tie the record before the final game of the year. Behind Prescott’s four touchdowns, the 2021 Dallas Cowboys now stand alone as the highest scoring team in franchise history.

The Cowboys offense has been top-notch all season, leading the NFL with 29.9 points per game. Their offenses efforts have led to an 11-5 record and interest from other NFL franchises in stealing away their offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore.
