Dallas Cowboys add Tennessee standout Darnell Wright to top-30 visitors list

The Dallas Cowboys added a new name to their visitors list this week – top-30 draft prospect Darnell Wright. The veteran out of the Tennessee Vols program is ranked among the top five prospects at tackle and his visit sheet reflects that.

On top of Dallas, Wright is visiting or has visited Chicago, Buffalo, New Orleans, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Arizona, Detroit, Washington and more. He has nearly 20 top-30 prospect visits in the weeks leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson.

Hosting the draftees for private workouts and top-30 visits gives teams an opportunity to get more face time with the potential picks and get to know them beyond the tape and combine performances.

The NFL limits each team to 30 prospect visits and they do not involve on-field workouts. They serve as job interviews, on top of medical checkups and meetings with the coaching staff.

Wright showed why he deserves to be an early-round pick throughout his career with the Vols. The 6-foot-6, 335-pound offensive lineman appeared in 46 games with 41 starts. He finished the 2022 regular season with no sacks allowed on 829 offensive snaps.

Wright played the majority of his snaps at right tackle but he could play left tackle or guard if needed at the next level.

Dallas shows preferences with top-30 list

The Cowboys have also hosted at least one of Wright’s teammates. Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt was reportedly taking a visit to Dallas last week. The potential first-round wideout is in the top five at his position heading into the draft.

The Dallas Cowboys’ list of visitors so far seems to suggest preferences for a wide receiver, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, cornerback and linebacker. They’ve also worked out several more wide receivers in private workouts and held meetings with a few quarterbacks as well. Dallas surprised by taking Tyler Smith in the first round last year, but the choice has panned out thus far.

The Cowboys have also hosted many more prospects, including potential first-rounder, Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but players who call DFW home can visit without counting against the 30-visit limit.

More on the 2023 NFL Draft

The 2023 NFL Draft takes place from Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29 in Kansas City, Missouri. The event location this year is the plaza just outside of Union Station.

Round 1 of the NFL Draft begins at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Apr. 27. Rounds 2-3 will begin at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Apr. 28, and Rounds 4-7 will begin at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Apr. 29. The draft broadcast runs throughout the weekend on both ESPN and NFL Network.
