Dallas Cowboys cut five to get to 85-player limit ahead of Tuesday deadline
With the roster deadline looming Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys got to work finalizing their 85-player squad. They cut five players Monday to get to that mark.
Dallas cut fullback Ryan Nall, cornerback Kyron Brown, tight end Ian Bunting, defensive tackle Austin Faoliu and wide receiver Ty Fryfogle to get to 85 players. They were all given injury designations, according to Pro Football Talk.
Nall played the last four years with the Chicago Bears before signing with Dallas this offseason. Brown spent last year on the Cowboys’ practice squad alongside Faoliu and Bunting, who also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks practice squads.
Fryfogle signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana. He had a decent year for the Hoosiers, totaling 512 receiving yards and a touchdown as IU struggled to a 2-10 record, including 1-9 in Big Ten play.
Next week, NFL teams have to cut their roster to 80 players and Aug. 30 is the 53-man roster deadline as the preseason rolls on. Dallas dropped its first preseason game to the Denver Broncos last week and is gearing up to take on the Los Angeles Chargers Aug. 20.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy provides update on injured linebacker Anthony Barr
Cowboys linebacker Anthony Barr is set make his training camp debut Wednesday, coach Mike McCarthy confirmed. The news comes a little more than a week after Dallas placed Barr on the PUP list.
“Cowboys LB Anthony Barr will make his practice debut with team this week, participating in individual drills Wednesday and building from there, Mike McCarthy said,” the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken tweeted.
Barr signed with the Cowboys earlier this month on a one-year deal worth $3 million. A first round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, he brings a veteran presence having spent eight years in the league with the Minnesota Vikings. He has been named to the Pro Bowl four times while recording 495 tackles, 17.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and five interceptions across his career.
