Disturbing new details emerge about Tyron Smith's hamstring injury
New details on Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith’s hamstring injury revealed it to be more serious than previously thought.
Smith left the practice field on Wednesday after a non-contact incident. After initially ruling out ACL damage, NFL insiders reported Thursday that the injury is an avulsion fracture, which is a separation of the hamstring tendon from the bone behind the knee. Smith tore his left hamstring but it also came away from the bone.
The avulsion fracture requires surgery, which Smith could get as soon as today. He will meet with doctors Thursday but the timetable for his return doesn’t sound good.
“If he’s back at all, it’ll be December,” Ian Rapoport shared.

With Smith out indefinitely, the Cowboys are going to continue breaking in former Tulsa offensive lineman Tyler Smith. Smith was the No. 24 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Many questioned the Cowboys’ selection of Tyler Smith
Going into draft weekend, most viewed Tyler Smith as a second-round prospect, but that didn’t stop the Cowboys from taking him in Round 1. The pick was met with a lot of criticism and surprise throughout the NFL ranks.
Smith likely needs some time to truly develop and reach his true potential, but the Cowboys love the high-end upside. He has played both tackle and guard, providing some needed versatility on the offensive front.
The Cowboys will need him to step up in a major way with the Pro Bowl lineman sidelined.
