Dallas Cowboys host Boston College standout WR Zay Flowers on top-30 visit

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly hosting former Boston College star receiver Zay Flowers on a top-30 prospect visit, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

Flowers, who posted his first 1,000-yard receiving season in 2022, is currently the No. 4 wideout prospect on the ESPN best-available board for the 2023 NFL draft.

The 5-foot-10, 172-pound wideout could come off the board around the No. 26 pick in the first round, which the Cowboys own. It all depends on the teams ahead of Dallas. Like in 2022, there could be a run on wideouts once the first one goes.

Flowers fits the bill of the type of wide receiver the Cowboys have been eyeing. They have met with UNC’s Josh Downs and Houston’s Tank Dell recently, who are both smaller receivers like Flowers.

The Boston College star had a career-high 12 interceptions in 2022. He also averaged 15.5 yards per catch over his four years with the Eagles.

After getting a big boost already early in the free agency window, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is feeling confident about the upcoming draft.

“We’ve got ourselves in real good shape to get us some picks that can play immediately,” Jones said. “And that’s the goal here. If you get yourself in a position where you can draft some players you can put on the field, and be a position selective a little bit, you’re doing it (right). Now you never want to pass on the guy you ought to be taking, but still be position selective. And that’s, I think, where we are. I feel good that we can take any position there.”

Mel Kiper on Flowers: ‘Going to be a heck of a pick’

After putting Flowers in the bottom of the first round in one of his mock drafts, ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper raved about the BC wideout.

“I think we both agree Zay Flowers is going to be a heck of a pick,” Kiper said to fellow analyst Todd McShay. “I put him at the end of the first [round], love the kid. Love everything about this guy. I’m amazed that somebody maybe mid-first wouldn’t even jump at him. But if he gets into the late first, early second round, I think Zay Flowers — three to four years from now, when we look back and say, ‘Why wasn’t he the first receiver off the board?’

“This kid is outstanding. Todd talked about character with … the quarterbacks and all that. This guy really gets it. I think he’s NFL ready. What he did up there at BC speaks volumes about character… Electric with the ball in his hands after the catch. He can reverse, jet sweeps. You can do so many things with Zay Flowers. Imagine him in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes.”

The 2023 NFL Draft takes place from Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29 in Kansas City, Missouri. The event location this year is the plaza just outside of Union Station.

Round 1 of the NFL Draft begins at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Apr. 27. Rounds 2-3 will begin at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Apr. 28, and Rounds 4-7 will begin at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Apr. 29. The draft broadcast runs throughout the weekend on both ESPN and NFL Network.
