Jerry Jones on Odell Beckham Jr: 'We don't have anything'
Although Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have still been in communication with NFL free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., the team owner admitted on Tuesday that the chances of the two sides working out a deal are “diminishing.” In an interview with 105.3 The Fan, Jones shared that the window to make a deal is closing as the playoffs loom next month.
“As of this morning, we don’t have anything,” Jones said. “The reality is time is moving on down the road relative to playing in the playoffs and so every day diminishes our chances of going forward.”
Injury concerns have been the major roadblock with Beckham and Dallas since his visit at the beginning of December. Beckham tore his ACL during the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams.
Furthermore, the Cowboys added veteran wideout T.Y. Hilton to the roster and though he didn’t play in Sunday’s loss versus Jacksonville, offensive coordinator Kellen Moore heaped praise on the new addition this week.
“I can’t tell you how remarkable it’s been to see a guy show up in December in the NFL and be able to handle a system the way he has,” Moore said. “He’s been awesome. As we continue to build this thing, he’s gonna be an awesome contributor to it.”
Hilton will get a shot at showing the Cowboys that they don’t need another free agent in Saturday’s game versus the Eagles.
Jones also noted on Tuesday that the offense needs wide receiver Michael Gallup to be more involved.

Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch out for Eagles game
The Dallas Cowboys will face the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve without leading tackler Leighton Vander Esch, however, NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed good news in regard to his status on Monday.
Feared to have suffered a neck injury in the loss versus Jacksonville on Sunday, the former first-round draft pick actually suffered a “shoulder stinger,” a source told Rapoport after the linebacker’s MRI today.
“The MRI on #Cowboys LB Leighton Vander Esch actually revealed a right shoulder stinger, not a neck injury, source said,” Rapoport shared. “While he did have a neck issue a years ago, the MRI and CT scan cleared it and this issue is unrelated. He’s still sore and may miss time, but overall good news.”
The Dallas Cowboys are one-point favorites versus the Eagles at AT&T Stadium on Saturday. Vander Esch’s status heading toward the divisional rivalry game is day-to-day at this point and his status will be closely monitored all week.
In an interview on 105.3 The Fan on Monday afternoon, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team expects Vander Esch back on the field this season, though he could miss multiple games.
