The Dallas Cowboys have announced a critical roster move ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. After working out kickers Brett Maher and Lirim Hajrullahu, the Cowboys have elected to sign Hajrullahu. According to Todd Brock of USA today sports, it will mark the third time in less than 90 days that the specialist has been signed by the Cowboys.

The signing of Hajrullahu is a result of starting kicker Greg Zuerlein being placed on the Reserve/COVID list on Tuesday. Hajrullahu filled in for Zuerlein earlier in the preseason as he was recovering from back surgery. In the preseason he was perfect, going 12 for 12.

The second time he was on the active roster was following the Cowboys loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Zuerlein struggled in his first game back, leading Dallas to believe they might have brought him back too early. He suited up for the Cowboys’ next game against the Los Angeles Chargers but was not needed, as Zuerlein bounced back from his week 1 performance.

Cowboys running back gives update on knee injury

The Dallas Cowboys received some good news from running back Ezekiel Elliott regarding his knee injury from Sunday’s loss against the Denver Broncos. The Cowboys were stonewalled on offense against the Broncos, in both the pass and run game. And the injury to Elliott contributed to the lack of success for Dallas throughout the game.

When speaking to the media on Wednesday the Cowboys running back was optimistic about how his knee is feeling.

“My knee feels pretty good. I probably did more today than what I’ve been doing in the past. … I just kind of took a bad fall on it during the game and it was sore, but it’s more something I just have to keep moving around, keep warm,” said Elliott while speaking to the media.

Elliott left the Cowboys’ loss on Sunday in the first quarter. And he did not return back to the field of play until the second quarter; after the Cowboys went down 16-0. He helped the Cowboys pick up a first down on a 21-yard catch just before the two-minute warning. but he was clearly hobbled on the play and headed back to the sideline after that play. Elliott soldiered through the knee pain and played sparingly in the second half. He finished the game with 10 carries for 51 yards and had three receptions for 25 yards, in the Cowboys’ 30-16 defeat.
