Staff changes have already been made for the Dallas Cowboys, with a few position coaches not returning for the 2023 season. Head coach Mike McCarthy seems to be safe, even with two consecutive playoff losses to the San Francisco 49ers. Owner/GM Jerry Jones has been consistent in shutting down the thought of moving on from McCarthy.

As for the two coordinators? We’re in a wait-and-see mode.

Dan Quinn is a serious candidate for multiple head coaching roles — mainly in Arizona and Denver. Kellen Moore was a finalist for the Carolina job but Frank Reich wound up being the choice.

While you would think Moore was just simply returning to Dallas, McCarthy was not too committed to his offensive coordinator.

There were multiple opportunities for McCarthy to say Moore would be back next season during his season-ending press conference on Thursday. Instead, he said the OC will be evaluated just as everybody else in the organization has.

“I really don’t want to play this game today,” McCarthy said. “It’s been a long couple of days. Kellen Moore, just like the rest of the coaches, will be evaluated. They’ll all be evaluated.”

On paper, the partnership between Moore and quarterback Dak Prescott has been one of the best in the NFL. Dallas is continually near the top of every offensive statistic and at times, wins games thanks to the duo’s work.

Not many have been able to crack the 49ers’ defensive code this season but the Cowboys were only able to put together one touchdown drive. Prescott has gotten his fair share of the blame from the fans but Moore has not been popular among some this season.

A decision will have to come in the near future for McCarthy, saying he would like to speak to Moore by Friday. If the offensive coordinator does wind up staying in Dallas, the offensive band would be staying together and giving it another go toward winning a Super Bowl.

Kellen Moore future in limbo after missing out on Carolina job

Moore was a serious candidate to earn the Panthers’ head coaching job just before missing out. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said the Cowboys OC had Carolina making a “very tough decision.”

“Interestingly, Kellen Moore really, really stood out in this process,” Rapoport said. “The #Cowboys OC made this a very tough decision.”

This marks another head coaching cycle where Moore has seen his name thrown around. However, he has not quite been able to land a job just yet.
