Report: Cowboys 'out' on free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

After months of will-they-won’t-they, the Dallas Cowboys are now reportedly ‘out’ on free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Multiple reports on Sunday revealed that the Cowboys are no longer pursuing the former Rams star since they’ve already added a veteran to the wideouts room for 2023. Dallas completed a trade for Houston Texans receiver Brandin Cooks, sending a 2023 fifth-round pick and 2024 sixth-round pick to their counterparts down south.
The Cowboys are taking on Cooks’ $12 million salary for 2023. It’s a large sum, however, OBJ reportedly wanted between $15 million to $20 million, making the former first-rounder out of Oregon State a more fiscally sound option.
Beckham sounded off on the low-ball offers he’s apparently receiving this offseason.
“I’m just so confused where the quote is from me tht said I want 20,” Beckham tweeted with a skeptical emoji. “All I’m sayin is 4 AINT enough.”
Beckham hasn’t played since he suffered an ACL tear during the Rams’ Super Bowl run. The former Giants star hasn’t had a 1,000 yard season since 2019. Meanwhile, Cooks posted 1,037 for Houston in 2021. The two wide receivers went just eight selections apart in the 2014 NFL Draft, both in the first round.
There have also been many discussions this offseason about DeAndre Hopkins. However, that former Texans star is also a more costly option than Cooks.
Cooks ready to add to ‘already special’ Cowboys offense
Brandin Cooks spent three years with the Texans but was looking to join a team that could compete for a Super Bowl, which at 3-13-1 last season, Houston was not.
The ninth-year veteran told NFL reporter Aaron Wilson that he’s ready to add to what the Cowboys have already built behind Dak Prescott and Tony Pollard.

“Man, honestly, I just feel blessed for this opportunity to contribute to something that’s already special,” Cooks said. “For the Jones family to believe in me, I look forward to joining something special and I bring that mindset everywhere I go.”
In 2022, Cooks played in 13 games, racking up 699 yards on 59 receptions with three touchdowns. He missed several games due to a calf injury.
Over the course of his NFL career, he has amassed 630 receptions for 8,616 receiving yards and 49 touchdowns. He eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in six of nine seasons.
The New Orleans Saints snagged the California native with the 20th overall selection in 2014. Ever since, he’s been a reliable, exciting wide receiver but he has been a bit of a journeyman.
Before the trade from the Texans to the Cowboys, Cooks also spent time with the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.
