Dak Prescott emotional following first Cowboys home game since injury
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said emotions hit him ahead of the Cowboys’ home opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
“Yeah, I think there were a couple of times but definitely again during the national anthem,” Prescott told ESPN’s Lisa Salters of being emotional prior to the game. “Just gratitude, definitely just thankful for everything that I’ve been through. All the hard work that’s made me account for it just to be back out here doing what I love in the greatest place to play football,”
Monday signified Dak Prescott’s first time suiting up in AT&T Stadium in nearly one year after he went down with a compound fracture and dislocation to his right ankle in Week 5 of the 2020 season.
“Just in pregame early in pregame warmups with the whole team but I think the last moment was the national anthem and then it was go time,” he said when asked of the other time he got emotional.
The Cowboys dominated in their return to AT&T Stadium, beating the Eagles 41-21. In the win, Dak Prescott completed 21 of 26 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns.

“This offense is just playing together,” Dak Prescott said after the game. “We got a great place to play that we’re playing with. We got a great brotherhood. Everybody’s holding each other accountable. It’s fun to be a part of. We’ve got so many playmakers that don’t have egos. They make my job easy. Offensive line protects and guys go make plays.”
Prescott and the Cowboys offense have been humming to start the season. Dak Prescott has thrown for 878 yards and six touchdowns in three games, leading the Cowboys to a 2-1 record, with the only loss coming against the reigning Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the season opener, 31-29.
The Cowboys defense complemented the offense with a strong performance on Monday. In the win, rookie Micah Parsons recorded four tackles and half a sack. As a team, the Cowboys recorded two sacks and two interceptions. Second-year cornerback Trevon Diggs intercepted his former Alabama teammate Jalen Hurts and returned the pick for a touchdown to make it a 27-7 game.
The Cowboys defensive performance was especially impressive considering the Cowboys’ front seven was absolutely decimated for the matchup against the Eagles as the following players did not play: Demarcus Lawrence, Keanu Neal, Dorance Armstrong, Neville Gallimore, Carlos Watkins, Bradlee Anae, and Trysten Hill.
