Dallas Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse suffers leg injury, requires help off field

Dallas Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse suffered a serious looking leg injury during the third quarter of their season opener on Sunday. Kearse went down to the field and required help to stand on his feet, before limping off the field to the sideline.

As he attempted to leave the field with cornerback Trevon Diggs helping him to the sideline, Kearse eventually stopped before making it off the field. Athletic trainers evaluated him on the field before eventually getting him to the injury tent.

“Looks like a left knee injury for Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse. He’s putting very little pressure on his left leg as he goes to the blue medical tent,” detailed The Athletic‘s Jon Machota.

Kearse was nearly unable to go on Sunday after being listed on Dallas’ final injury report of the week with a neck injury that kept him out of practice. His injury appeared to not be bothering him throughout the game until suffering the apparent knee injury. Dallas provided a small update on his status later in the broadcast and said that he was questionable to return.

Although the Dallas offense struggled in a major way against the Buccaneers defense, scoring just three points through the first three quarters, the Cowboys’ defense stepped up to the challenge for most of the night. Prior to Kearse’s injury, the Cowboys had allowed just 12 points despite continued deep drives and good field position for Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay offense.

Shortly after Kearse’s injury, Brady connected with Mike Evans on an incredible catch in the end zone to take a commanding 19-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Unfortunately for Dallas, the injury woes continued after quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a hand injury during the fourth quarter that will force him to have surgery and miss extended time.
