The Dallas Cowboys continued to make roster moves on Wednesday. Long snapper Jake McQuaide is heading to the injured reserve, and the team signed two long snappers to the practice squad to try and replace him.

McQuaide suffered a torn tricep that could potentially end his season, which is why Dallas acted swiftly to try and find his replacement. The Cowboys are bringing in Tucker Addington and Matt Overton to the practice squad, they announced, and one will likely take over for McQuaide on the active roster.

Those moves occurred after Dallas opted to sign quarterback Will Grier off the practice squad as questions continue to swirl about what’s next at the position. Dak Prescott is still out after thumb surgery, and it looks like Cooper Rush is in position to start once again this week against the Los Angeles Rams.

Dallas Cowboys make it official, add Will Grier amid quarterback concerns

The Dallas Cowboys are officially elevating former West Virginia star quarterback Will Grier from the practice squad to the active roster for Week 5. Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlkin shared the expected move on Tuesday before the team announced it on Wednesday.

Grier will be the backup quarterback behind Cooper Rush who has been filling in as the starter for the last three weeks. Dak Prescott could possibly return from injury for Week 6, which means Grier’s promotion may be brief.

If Prescott does return for Week 6, he’ll be going up against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles.

Grier had a promising preseason for the Cowboys, throwing for 186 yards, two touchdowns, and an additional 35 rushing yards on six attempts in two games. The team signed him off waivers in September of 2021 after a two-year stint with the Carolina Panthers.

The 2019 third-round draft pick hasn’t played in a regular-season game since his first season in the league with Carolina. He completed 53.8% of his passes with no scores and four picks.
