Dallas Cowboys tackle Tyron Smith leaves game with knee injury
Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Tyron Smith has left Sunday’s contest against the Washington Football Team with an apparent left knee injury. Cowboys reporter Jon Machota tweeted that Smith was seen on the sidelines struggling to walk it off and gain medical clearance.
The Cowboys (8-4) held a comfortable 27-8 lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter. With Dallas seemingly having the game in hand, it would make sense to let Smith rest for the remainder.
Washington made a valiant comeback effort, outscoring the Cowboys 12-0 from the time Smith went down. Unfortunately it wouldn’t be enough, as Dallas went on to win 27-20.
After a scorching 6-1 start, the Cowboys had lost two of their past three games entering Sunday. The win against Washington marks their second straight victory. It is also big for their place in the NFC East division, putting them three games ahead of both Washington and Philadelphia.
A former USC Trojan, Smith has spent his entire NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. The team spent a first-round pick on him in 2011, taking him ninth overall. He has enjoyed a successful 11 seasons that include seven Pro Bowls and two All-Pro nominations.

It wasn’t the best day for the Dallas offense, unless you happened to be kicker Greg Zurlein. He led the Cowboys with 12 points, going a perfect 4-of-4 on field goals. Aside from that, quarterback Dak Prescott three two interceptions and the run game barely topped 100 yards.
Thankfully, the defense came up big, forcing four Washington turnover including a fumble return for a touchdown. They held the Football Team to an average of just 3.6 yards per play.
Check back for more updates on the knee injury to Tyron Smith in the coming days. The Cowboys will hope he can make his return before a matchup with the New York Giants next week.
