The Dallas Cowboys used the No. 88 pick of the 2022 NFL Draft on wide receiver Jalen Tolbert out of South Alabama. And in his first interview after being drafted, the rookie displayed the kind of bravado that the Cowboys organization is known for.

According to The Athletic’s John Machota, when asked what he brings to the Dallas roster, this is what Tolbert had to say.

“I bring versatility. One of my strengths is high-pointing and catching the ball away from my body. I’m excited to continue to improve in every aspect as a wide receiver,” said Tolbert, according to Machota.

Tolbert’s 6-foot-3 height and his speed make him an ideal deep threat and red zone threat for the Cowboys’ passing game. At South Alabama, he had a total of 178 career receptions for 3140 yards and 22 touchdowns. And just last year, he was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year after setting a new school record with 82 catches over their 12-game season.

With Tolbert’s skill set and playmaking ability, look for him to make an impression on cowboy coaches early and often during training camp. And if he flourishes there, then cowboy fans can look forward to seeing him and star quarterback Dak Prescott connect throughout the season for touchdowns.

Cowboys reveal jersey number for first-round pick Tyler Smith

Tyler Smith found out Thursday night at the 2022 NFL Draft that he will be playing for the Dallas Cowboys next season, and now he knows what his jersey number will be. The No. 24 overall pick and Tulsa Hurricanes product will wear No. 73 for his rookie seasonaccording to The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Smith was seen posing with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in Machota’s tweet, as the pair held up a Dallas jersey with Smith’s name and new number on the back. It’s a change for the 6-foot-6, 332-pound offensive lineman, who wore No. 56 during his college days with the Golden Hurricane.

An under-the-radar prospect coming out of high school in 2019, Smith quickly developed into an anchor for the Tulsa offensive line. This past season as a starter at left tackle, he helped the Golden Hurricane pass protection rank 39th in the FBS in sack rate (5.4%). Some have speculated he may move inside to left guard in the NFL, but either way it’s clear the Cowboys got a talented piece for the future.
