Cowboys Trevon Diggs could make history on Sunday Night Football
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has a chance to etch his name in the NFL history books on Sunday night versus the Minnesota Vikings.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide national champion is currently tied with Hall of Famer Rod Woodson as the only players who have recorded seven interceptions through six games. If he records an interception versus the Vikings, he’ll own the longest streak of games (7) with an interception in NFL history.
The NFL record for interceptions in a season is 14. At his current pace with seven through six games, Trevon Diggs would finish the year with 21 interceptions. At some point, teams will stop throwing his way, but they haven’t quite figured that out yet.
“If they keep throwing at the kid, he’s gonna get more,” star running back Ezekiel Elliott said. “You keep throwing at 7, he’s gonna pick you off. I think it’s about time QBs stop looking his way.”
Diggs has the second-best odds in Vegas for defensive player of the year after six games. He’s behind Cleveland Browns edge Myles Garrett who leads the league with 9.5 sacks.
Trevon Diggs, a Maryland native, is coming off a rookie season in which he recorded a sack and just three interceptions.

Diggs was only a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday but went full-go on Friday. The Cowboys fully expect the second-year corner to play on Sunday night.
Zimmer halts Diggs-Sanders comparisons
Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer got questions this week about Trevon Diggs and his comparisons to Deion “Primetime” Sanders. Zimmer coached Sanders with the Dallas Cowboys in the late 1990s.
“I mean, Deion’s in the Hall of Fame, so let’s wait a while, OK?” Zimmer said in response.
Although he’s probably a little biased, Mike Zimmer has a point. Sanders earned Pro Bowl invites eight times, he was a six-time first-team All-Pro at corner and one-time All-Pro as both a kick returner and punt returner. Primetime also won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys and earned NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1994.
The current Jackson State head coach recorded 53 interceptions in his career. He did only record seven interceptions in a single season once, in 1993.
The Cowboys and Vikings kickoff at 8:20 p.m.
