Cowboys corner Trevon Diggs is coming off of a monster sophomore season, where he posted a league leading 11 interceptions, the most by any NFL player in the last 40 years. The First Team All Pro and Pro Bowler set the bar pretty high with is 2021 performance, but clearly is still looking to keep elevating his game when he discussed his goal for this upcoming season.

“Be higher than last year,” Diggs said of his goal. “Beat my 11 and just keep going and improving.”

The Alabama alum’s historic 11 interception, 21 pass deflection season will definitely be a hard one to top, but not impossible. Especially if Diggs continues to get targeted as much as he was in 2021, where he was one of the most targeted cornerbacks in the league averaging 6.4 targets per game.

Along with being one of the most targeted cornerbacks in the NFL, Diggs also gave up the most receiving yards of any corner last season with 962 yards. There are still areas of his game he can improve on, and lining up against teammate receiver CeeDee Lamb during camp can surely help him do so. The duo both came in the 2020 draft class, and are both some of the top ascending young talent in the NFL.

“When you got two people like that, just going hard every play, no one wants to lose, it’s going to naturally just make you a better player and get you ready for the season,” Diggs said. “It helps a lot, just that competitiveness. He’s like, ‘You’re not going to beat me.’

“ ‘And I’m like, ‘You’re not going to beat me.’”

Hopefully for the Cowboys, their young and talented roster can bring the best out in each other during camp through competition, and use that momentum heading into the 2022 season.

Zach Martin calls out teammates ahead of 2022 training camp

Cowboys offensive lineman Zach Martin had a message for his team as they head into fall camp. Martin believes the Cowboys have to make some changes heading into this season in order to improve, and an identity that they must establish.

“I want to be a tough football team. I want to be a smart football team. Last year we had some trouble with some discipline and some penalties and stuff. That’s A-No. 1 for us, a disciplined, tough football team,” Martin said.

Martin, a team captain, is a seven time Pro-Bowler and seven time All-Pro heading into his eighth season in the league, all with the Cowboys. Out of Notre Dame, Martin made an immediate impact once he stepped foot in the league establishing himself as one of the best offensive lineman in the NFL early.

And he does have a point, the Cowboys were the most penalized team in the league last year with 127 flags thrown on them accounting for over 1,000 yards of penalty yardage, only six other teams made it to the 1,000 yard mark. Plus the way their season ended last year in the fourth quarter of their playoff matchup versus the San Fransisco 49ers did not show shades of a ‘smart football team’. If the Cowboys want to give their fans a legitimate playoff run to cheer about, they will definitely have to clean up those mistakes and establish toughness like Martin mentioned. The Cowboys first open practice of training camp is Wednesday, July 27 in Oxnard, California
