The Dallas Cowboys gave a positive update on the injury status of two of their biggest defensive pieces in Anthony Barr and Anthony Brown. Barr was unavailable for Dallas last week in their overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers, while Brown exited the game in the first half with a concussion suffered while defending a touchdown pass to Christian Watson.

Both were participants in Wednesday’s walkthrough practice for the Cowboys, although Brown was still in concussion protocols and not yet cleared for Sunday. The Cowboys are hopeful that both will be back in time for their matchup with the 8-1 Minnesota Vikings.

“Cowboys LB Anthony Barr (hamstring) and CB Anthony Brown (concussion) will both participate in walkthrough today, coach Mike McCarthy said. Brown is still in concussion protocol, but he’s progressed enough in it to partake,” explained Dallas Morning NewsMichael Gehlken.

The Dallas defense was given plenty to work on over the week regardless of who was on the field for them, giving up 31 points to the Packers and giving up 207 rushing yards. Despite the issues with stopping the run, Barr and Brown will certainly be a huge boost to the personnel on the field for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Barr joined Dallas on a one-year deal this season and provides a valuable piece at linebacker to help free up Micah Parsons on the field. With Barr reliably drawing attention of his own, it allows Quinn to move his players around in more positions to confuse offenses with new looks. Barr, a former first-round pick for the Vikings, will get a chance to dominate against his former team and help Dallas stay ahead of the field in the NFC Wild Card race.
