Early rankings of the best wide receiver units in the NFL are out, and the Dallas Cowboys wide receivers are on top of the league. Pro Football Focus listed their rankings for each team’s receivers, and Dallas is a dominant second place.

The Dallas Cowboys wide receivers by the numbers

It’s easy to see the talent available for quarterback Dak Prescott to throw to this season. The trio of Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb leads a unit of Dallas Cowboys wide receivers looking to give the NFL headaches.

The start of the attack is clearly Cooper. He’s a single coverage nightmare, with PFF listing his ability to get open a stellar 59.9% of plays. The pressure he will apply to defenses makes the rest of the squad even more dangerous. In his 41 games as a Cowboy, he’s amassed 3,028 yards and 19 touchdowns.

This opens up Lamb seemingly most of all. In 2020 he tallied 877 yards in the slot, good for second-highest in the league. As he leaves his rookie days behind him, expect him to get even more production. In his short five games with Prescott, he had at least five receptions for 55 yards each.

And right there with them is Gallup, an almost underrated threat. His production in 2019 before the addition of Lamb was 1,107 yards on 66 receptions. While this dipped with the new offense, he was no less lethal. Leading the team with 14.3 yards per reception, PFF makes note of his 18th best contested-catch percentage in the league.

That’s not all folks

Tight end Blake Jarwin went down almost immediately in 2020 with a torn ACL. His addition as a pass-catching threat will only help, although it may come at the expense of Dalton Schultz’s production. Stepping up for the injured Jarwin, Schultz grabbed 63 receptions. Two tight-end threats are a good problem to have.

And when the trio of Cooper, Gallup and Lamb needs a moment off, exciting new rookie Simi Fehoko is ready. At 6-4 and 227 pounds, the Cowboys hope he can live up to the size. Alongside him is Cedrick Wilson, who hasn’t made a huge impact yet but received a PFF grade of 61.1 despite limited use.

Dak Prescott’s return

The talent this team shows is directly tied into the hopes placed upon returning Prescott. Before his 2020 injury just five games into the season, he was throwing for a massive 371 yards per game. With a healthy offense at his disposal, the only problem they should have is figuring out who to start each week in fantasy football. He has yet to break 30 touchdowns for a season, but managing 30 exactly in 2019 gives hope to see his personal bests broken.
