Dan Campbell thinks extraordinarily high of his defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn. However, so does the of the NFL — specifically, the New Orleans Saints.

As the Saints look for their replacement for Sean Payton, New Orleans is interviewing Glenn for the position on Wednesday. Evidently, Campbell is worried about losing one of his top assistants.

“Well, he’d be a great fit (with the Saints),” Campbell said Tuesday, via the team’s official website. “That’s why I’m nervous. Honestly, AG would be a great fit for just about anybody. That’s how much I think of him and know where he’s going. I know that’s real, that’s out there, they have a good feel of AG. AG has a great feel of that organization.”

Moreover, Glenn knows New Orleans well. The former NFL defensive back was the Saints defensive backs coach for five seasons under Payton prior to joining Campbell in Detroit. Now, it’s possible he could return to New Orleans as the leader of a new era.

While Glenn has coaching aspirations, he’s elated to be in Detroit as their defensive coordinator.

“Whenever my time (to be a head coach) comes, it comes,” Glenn said, via NFL.com. “I think we all know that at some time in my career that’s what I want to do. But I said this before and I’ll say it again, I want to be the best defensive coordinator the Detroit Lions ever had.

“Also, I look forward to that day I become a head coach. The interviews are coming around and I’m enjoying those things, they are fun.”

Dan Campbell and the Lions don’t want to lose Aaron Glenn. Still, the Lions coach will be elated for the talented coach if he does get a head coaching job in 2022.

More on Dan Campbell, Detroit Lions

Dan Campbell and Aaron Glenn showed great promise in their first season with the Lions. While the wins didn’t come easy for Detroit, the effort and improvement was evident throughout the season.

Looking back at their first season in-charge, no example is greater than the Lions victory in Week 18 over the Green Bay Packers. With nothing to play for, the Lions treated their final showdown like their Super Bowl. In the end, they defeated the No. 1 seed in the NFC 37-30 — ending their season on a high note.

Whether Aaron Glenn returns to the Lions or not, Dan Campbell will do what he can to bring glory to Detroit. However, he’ll have his work cut out for him if he loses his defensive coordinator.
