Dan Quinn may be the hottest name in NFL head coaching searches–and while the Chicago Bears have a lengthy list of candidates–it looks like the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator has a legitimate chance of winding up in the Windy City.

“The #Bears are set to request 2nd interviews with 2 more candidates — #Cowboys DC Dan Quinn & ex-#Lions coach Jim Caldwell, per me and @MikeGarafolo,” Ian Rappaport tweeted on Monday. “#Colts DC Matt Eberflus has his 2nd interview on Wednesday, per @TomPelissero. #Saints DC Dennis Allen is interviewing tomorrow.”

At this point, it’s almost certain the former Atlanta Falcons’ front man will be leading another NFL team in 2022.

Quinn’s interview with Giants could complicate things for Cowboys

Dan Quinn was a revelation for the Cowboys. In his first season with Dallas, Quinn rebuilt his brand through his rejuvenation of the team’s defense.

Evidently, Quinn’s time with the Cowboys could be limited to just one season. To make matters worse, one of the most interested teams is one of the Cowboys’ biggest rivals — the New York Giants.

On Monday, Quinn is scheduled to interview for New York’s gig. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, the Cowboys defensive coordinator could have a keen interest in the Giants.

“Source: Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is traveling to interview for the HC job with the #Giants tomorrow when #Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy is scheduled to begin meetings with his coaching staff,” revealed Werder. “Quinn grew up in NJ as Giants fan with Lawrence Taylor poster on his wall.”

According to Werder, Quinn, born and raised in Morristown, New Jersey, would welcome a homecoming. The Giants are one of the many teams the Cowboys defensive coordinator is interviewing for, but it’s apparent they’re the one he has his eyes on.

However, Quinn will have a bevy of competition for the job. Brian Flores, former Miami Dolphins coach and native of Brooklyn, New York, is said to have the Giants atop his list, as well. Moreover, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll may be the man to beat — he also grew up in the area, and is reported to be atop the team’s wishlist.

As you can see, a possible marriage between Dan Quinn and the New York Giants could shake the NFC East to the core. Either way, the Cowboys may already be accepting that they’re going to need a new defensive coordinator in 2022.

More on Dan Quinn, Dallas Cowboys

Furthermore, other NFL franchises are interested in hiring a possible replacement for Dan Quinn. As teams look to find the next star coordinators, Cowboys secondary coach Joe Whitt is gaining interest. According to Steve Wyche of NFL Network, the Cowboys assistant is sought-after for defensive coordinator jobs.

“The Ravens have put in an interview request with Cowboys secondary coach Joe Whitt for their vacant defensive coordinator position, according to a source with knowledge of the situation,” tweeted Wyche. “Seattle also requested to interview Whitt for the open DC job.”

Both the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks moved on from their defensive coordinators this offseason. First, the Ravens shocking moved on from Don “Wink” Martindale. Then, the Seahawks decided to fire Ken Norton Jr. from their position.

With Quinn receiving a multitude of interview requests, perhaps Whitt could step in as the Cowboys defensive coordinator if his superior receives a gig. Either way, it looks like Joe Whitt will have plenty of options to consider this offseason
