Darryn Peterson, the No. 1 ranked shooting guard in the country, has announced his commitment to Kansas.

The 6-foot-5 senior out of Prolific Prep (CA) ultimately chose the Jayhawks over Ohio State, USC, and Kansas State. He also received offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Washington, and Arizona State.

Peterson, a native of Canton, Ohio, is the nation’s No. 3 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He is KU’s first commitment this cycle.

Scouting Report

“Darryn Peterson has a basketball player’s frame; long arms with broad shoulders. He is a smooth player with the ball in his hands. Comfortable handling in the half and the full court. Peterson can get downhill and touch the paint where he is a crafty finisher at the rim. He also has the explosion to dunk, in traffic. The jump shot needs to continue to develop as he is currently a streaky shooter from beyond the arc. Peterson creates offense for himself, already at a high rate. There is more growth and upside to go as he tracks as one of the nation’s top prospects in his class.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw

Peterson’s On3 NIL Valuation worth over $1 million

Darryn Peterson currently holds a $1.4 million On3 NIL Valuation, which ranks 3rd in high school basketball.

The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation calculates an athlete’s NIL value using dynamic data points targeting three primary categories: performance, influence and exposure.

About On3 NIL Valuation, Brand Value, Roster Value

While the algorithm includes deal data, it does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals athletes have completed to date, nor does it set an athlete’s NIL valuation for their entire career.

The On3 NIL Valuation accounts for an athlete’s roster value and brand value. Roster value is the value an athlete has by being a member of his or her team at his or her school, which factors into the role of NIL collectives. Brand value factors in an athlete’s personal brand and the value it could bring to regional and national brands outside of the scope of NIL collectives.

Peterson named one of the top bucket-getters in the class

On3’s Jamie Shaw recently wrote that Darryn Peterson was one of the top-ten bucket-getters in the 2025 class:

“Darryn Peterson has a strong and physical frame. With that, he has a methodical approach to getting his buckets. He is comfortable on the ball and he probes the defense, attacking open space and gaining an advantage in the teeth of the defense. Where Peterson differs from most on this list is that he does a lot of his scoring damage from the free-throw line. He shot 88.0 percent from the stripe this summer on 8.3 attempts per game. Synergy tells us that Peterson aeraged an 1.043 points per possession while knocking down 24.1 points per game.”
