Summer Breakout David Punch sets official visits, breaks down recruitment
David Punch experienced a breakout travel ball season, adding over a dozen offers since May and seeing his recruitment jump from mid to high major. The 6-foot-7 forward from Dallas (TX) Dynamic Prep averaged 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds for his Drive Nation program on Nike’s EYBL Circuit.
“I play hard, I’m a good rebounder, and I’m overall versatile on both ends of the floor,” Punch told On3. “I watch a lot of Anthony Davis, especially how active he is on defense.”
On3 caught up with fast-rising David Punch recently to update his recruitment and talk about official visits and his timelines.
Punch talks official visits
“I’ve set upcoming official visits with Xavier, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and TCU,” Punch said. “I haven’t taken any visits yet.”
Xavier: “Coach (Sean) Miller is a great genuine guy; that’s what I like about him. We have a good relationship. They play fast and are one of the leading schools in assists per game. I like that about them.”
Penn State: “All of the coaches there have a good relationship with me. They tell me they like how hard I play and my finishing ability and passing ability. When they were at VCU, they liked to get out and run and play above the rim; that’s a big part of my game. Coach (Brent) Scott is the lead recruiter.”
Virginia Tech: ”They use their forwards a lot, and Coach (Mike) Young has developed some pretty good players at my position and height. Coach Young and I have a good relationship,”

TCU: “TCU is close to home, and I really like their campus. They tend to use their forwards a lot.”
“Ohio State wants me to come up for an unofficial visit,” Punch said. “They haven’t offered yet, and I’m not sure what they’re going to do.”

At the end of the day…
They have to show me, love,” Punch said. “I have to get that family vibe from them. Also, they have to be all in on my development as a player and playing in a free-flowing system on the court.”
