Deebo Samuel: 10 potential landings spots for disgruntled wide receiver
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who emerged as a star in 2021, reportedly requested a trade after a stall in contract negotiations this offseason. Known for his ability to impact the game through the air and on the ground, the former South Carolina star has become one of the most unique playmakers in the NFL.
During his breakout 2021 season, Samuel caught 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. In addition, he also added 59 carries for 365 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground in a hybrid role.
After a string of blockbuster trades this offseason, including wide receivers Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill, among others who have reset the market for skilled positions moving forward. With the 49ers seemingly hesitant to pay big, NFL.com has listed 10 possible suitors for Deebo Samuel in a potential trade market this offseason.
10 potential landing spots for Deebo Samuel
New York Jets
The Jets have looked far and wide for a star wide receiver this offseason, missing out on Adams and Hill while still hoping for AJ Brown or DK Metcalf. They have two top 10 picks this season and cap space to get a big extension done.
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts and 49ers have made blockbuster deals in the past, like DeForest Buckner, and new quarterback Matt Ryan will need additional help on the outside. However, they lack 2022 draft capital and would need to include future assets in a deal.
Green Bay Packers
The Packers own two first round picks and recently moved off Davante Adams after his trade request. With Aaron Rodgers signing another extension, the team needs a new star wide receiver to pair with their MVP quarterback.
Kansas City Chiefs
Although the Chiefs were not willing to pay Tyreek Hill, they now hold plenty draft capital to get any deal done. However, they have already signed multiple replacements through free agency.
Atlanta Falcons
Despite moving off Matt Ryan this offseason, the Falcons have several offensive weapons who could benefit from an elite wide receiver. Arthur Smith’s usage of Cordarrelle Patterson could also make them an attractive destination.

New England Patriots
The Patriots are always named when any wide receiver needs a new home and could use a star to help young quarterback Mac Jones. The team owns its first round pick and already acquired former Dolphins star DeVante Parker to help the unit.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles turned their three firsts into two by acquiring future draft capital, but could consolidate again by acquiring a star to pair with top 10 pick Devonta Smith. With Jalen Hurts’ spot at quarterback still up for discussion, a loaded group of playmakers could present an opportunity to prove himself in 2022.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers lost JuJu Smith-Schuster, in addition to Ben Roethlisberger, this offseason. While they have more glaring needs on the offensive line and at quarterback, adding Deebo Samuel could prove too good to pass up.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints have also been in the market for a wide receiver to pair with Michael Thomas. They now hold two 2022 first round picks and have worked some cap space magic to free room for others in the past few years after entering the offseason well above the limit.
Detroit Lions
The Lions are a startup option which needs a breathe of life and holds plenty draft capital to make a deal. While Jared Goff is not viewed as the long-term quarterback, everyone needs wide receivers – and Detroit does not have enough.
