The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best defenses in the NFL this year. They’ve done it without DeMarcus Lawrence — but he’s due to come back this week, providing a huge boost.

Lawrence suffered a fractured foot in Week 6 and hasn’t played since. He could’ve come back last week against the New Orleans Saints, but will likely make his return this week against the Washington Football Team.

In his absence, Dallas remained a top defense in the league. The Cowboys are tied for first in the NFL with 19 interceptions and four pick-sixes.

Lawrence spoke about coming back to such a great defense, and he gave an awesome answer.

“It’s like having clear skies on a beautiful day,” Lawrence said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “You know you have something to look forward to. We have high hopes of a playoff run and making it to that Super Bowl.”

Getting Lawrence back only adds to a talented Cowboys defense. He’s a two-time Pro Bowler and a former second team All-Pro defensive end. Putting him alongside Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs could be something to see as the season goes on.

Dallas Cowboys: Injury report for Wednesday

Prior to a couple weeks ago, Sunday’s showdown between the Washington Football Team and Dallas Cowboys seemed meaningless. Apart from the juiciness of an age-old rivalry, the two NFC East foes seemed to be going in different directions.

However, both Washington and the Cowboys have gone in different directions over the last month. Now, just two games separate the teams in the standings. Adding to the drama, both squads face off against each other twice in December.

As you can tell, the NFC East could begin to be decided on Sunday. A Cowboys victory would give them a huge leg up over Washington, while a victory for the Football Team would bring Dallas within striking distance.

Washington is on a tremendous winning streak at the moment. After shocking Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ron Rivera’s squad has defeated the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders.

On the other hand, the Cowboys have been stuck in their own inconsistencies. After dismantling the Atlanta Falcons, they were handled soundly by the Kansas City Chiefs. Afterwards, the Las Vegas Raiders ruined Thanksgiving — spoiling Jerry Jones’ Turkey Day. However, they may have turned a corner — taking care of business against the New Orleans Saints.

Something has to give on Sunday. Here’s who’s in, who’s out at the moment.
