Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James was ejected on Monday Night Football after he delivered a brutal helmet hit. While Colts receiver Ashton Dulin attempted to catch a pass and turn around, James hit Dulin leading with the crown of his helmet — creating a huge impact that sent both players immediately into their respective injury tents.

Shortly after reviewing the hit, officials announced that James was disqualified from the remainder of the game for his hit.

The hit immediately drew a call from Troy Aikman for an ejection as well, with both of the Monday Night Football announcers shocked at how dangerous the hit was in real time. As replays showed on the broadcast, the tackle luckily saw most of James’ force hitting Dulin’s shoulder pad first — although the whiplash from the hit certainly took it’s toll on the receiver immediately.

In live game speed however, the hit was one of the most violent impacts of the season.

After the play had resolved itself, Dulin was seen jogging off the field into the locker room for further evaluation as the team was concerned he may have suffered a head injury on the play. Later on during the next commercial break, an animated James was seen walking off the field as well after leaving his injury tent.

Unfortunately for the Colts, Dulin did suffer a concussion on the play and was ruled out for the remainder of the game with injury. The rest of the game followed a similar sour note for Indianapolis on the scoreboard as well, with the Colts ultimately falling 20-3 to the Chargers. The Colts have now lost five games in a row, and eight of their last nine as they continue to struggle on the season.
