Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf continues to make the impossible look easy in his third NFL season, and on Sunday, the Ole Miss product did it in emphatic fashion.

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was off to a terrific start on Sunday afternoon, completing all 13 of his first 13 passing attempts. When Smith looked to the end zone for Metcalf on his 14th attempt, Metcalf made sure that streak didn’t end — despite the odds stacked against him.

Smith on first-and-10 from the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 16-yard line dropped back into a shotgun formation and threw a ball to Metcalf, in single coverage, in the front right corner of the end zone. Metcalf had Jaguars cornerback Shaquill Griffin draped all over him, so he leapt up above the defense, shifted his body towards the ball and reeled in an acrobatic touchdown catch.

The touchdown catch put the Seahawks up 14-0 over the Jaguars in the second quarter, and it was Metcalf’s fifth catch of the day. He’s totaled 38 receiving yards and a touchdown so far, while wide receiver Tyler Lockett leads the Seahawks in receiving yards, with eight catches for 92 yards. Smith, on the other hand, completed 14 of his first 14 passing attempts for 137 yards and one touchdown pass; Smith also ran for a touchdown on a one-yard rush.

Metcalf was plagued by injuries in his three seasons at Ole Miss, causing his draft stock to suffer a small dip. He played in just two games in 2016, before completing his sophomore season in 2017 with 39 receptions for 646 yards and seven touchdowns. But in his final season, 2018, Metcalf was again limited to just seven games due to injury. In his final year, he hauled in 26 catches for 569 receiving yards and five touchdowns, before declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft. There, Metcalf was selected by the Seahawks in the second round, with the 64th overall selection.

Metcalf has been a game-changing wide receiver for the Seahawks in just two season, as he was named a second team All-Pro while also attending the 2020 Pro Bowl. He tallied 58 receptions for 900 receiving yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie, before stepping up to 83 receptions, 1,303 receiving yards and ten touchdowns in his second season.

This year, Metcalf is off to another productive start for the Seahawks, as he’d caught 33 passes for 537 receiving yards and six touchdowns before Sunday’s contest.
