Carolina Panthers star cornerback Jaycee Horn was thought to have broken his wrist on Saturday against the Detroit Lions. On Saturday afternoon following the game, Panthers’ linebacker Brian Burns confirmed that Horn indeed broke his wrist. He also said that depending on the severity of the injury, he would not want Horn playing again the rest of the season. Following the game, renowned sports physician Dr. David Chao chimed in with his thoughts on the type of injury, noting that if it’s a radius fracture, he would need surgery. He also noted whether or not Horn could return the rest of the 2022-2023 season.

Jaycee Horn went down with the injury in the second half Saturday and had to be carted off the field. He recorded six tackles prior to exiting the game.

A former first round pick out of South Carolina in 2021, Horn played in just three games as a rookie before suffering a fractured foot. That makes Saturday’s injury all the more devastating, as he had bounced back from that injury to tally 53 tackles, three interceptions and seven passes defended this season.

Jaycee Horn had been dealing with a shoulder injury heading into Saturday that limited him at practice this week. If the reports of a broken wrist are true, it would likely end his season prematurely for the second straight year.

Carolina still managed to come away with a 37-23 victory on Saturday despite the injury to Horn. The Panthers improved to 6-9 with two games remaining this season, starting with New Year’s Day against Tampa Bay.

Shi Smith scored first TD set up by Jaycee Horn INT

It was a good day for former South Carolina Gamecocks that currently play for the Carolina Panthers.

Former South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn snagged a first-quarter interception Sunday in the Panthers’ 30-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Moments later, former Gamecocks wide receiver Shi Smith scored his first career NFL touchdown, a 13-yarder from Sam Darnold.

The interception was the fourth in the young career of Horn, who was drafted by Carolina with the eighth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Smith, who is also in his second season in the league, has 16 receptions for 185 yards and a TD this season.
