Bryce Duke

Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley EDGE Bryce Davis committed to Clemson earlier this summer. Duke made a late push in July, but the four-star stayed with the Tigers. The Blue Devils never let up and their persistence paid off.

Davis has flipped his commitment to Duke.

“It was an extremely tough decision,” Davis told On3. “It took a lot of mental toughness to make this decision. After talking with the coaches at Duke more, talking things over with my parents and a lot of prayer, I decided Duke was where I wanted to go.”

Clemson had all the buzz much of the summer. Georgia was at one time trending as well. What did Duke do to change the No. 73 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking‘s mind?

“Duke has always been in the back of my mind. When you take away all of the logos and things like that, and I think about where I will really be happy at, the school is Duke. They have everything for me, and it really came down to me getting over the perception of me going to Duke and going there and making it my own.

“It came down to me being a top priority for them. Since coach Manny Diaz got there, they have made me feel that way. They treated me and my family great and I love the opportunities they offer. Duke has everything I need.”

Duke the ‘best of both worlds’

Davis sees a great opportunity at Duke, calling it “the best of both worlds” there. He liked the culture, the academics and the development on and off the field they offer. He is excited about who he gets to play for.

“Coach Diaz is a great guy. He is a man of faith and it came down to prayer for me. He and coach Harland Bower have stayed consistent, they are great men and I believe in what they will do with the program.

“Coach Diaz has a great resume. He is a defensive-minded head coach, he has developed a lot of players and I think he is the best defensive mind in football. I see Duke skyrocketing under coach Diaz. He has the mind-set, he knows what it takes and he is real personal with his players. The players will fight hard for him.”
