Early Signing Period: Will these On3 150 players be signing?

The early signing period starts today, and will run through November 16. On3 contacted every player in the 2023 On3 150 to ask them if they planned on signing early. We got answers out of a majority of the players; however a handful of them did say they were unsure.

A commitment is not the same as signing, so, does signing day mean? Players, and their parents are permitted to sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) during the seven day period in November (9th through 16th). The NLI is a legally binding document signed by player, parent, and school that connects the player to that program for one year. With the NLI they will also sign a financial aid package that spells out the money side of a player’s scholarship.

While the NLI portion of the signing is legally binding, a player is able to just sign their financial aid package, which in its own right, does not bind the player to the program. A simple commitment is verbally saying you will attend the program, and, like the financial aid package, in its own right is not binding.

There can be a lot of movement during the early signing period, and an understanding of what is going on can help.

So we reached out to each player to ask if they were signing during the early signing period. In conversing with the players, we did not ask for specifics on what document they were signing, but it was assumed to be the NLI.

The others

We have listed the players who have said they will sign, the players who said they will not sign, and the players who said they did not know. There are still a couple others in the 2023 On3 150 where we simply are not sure.

These are guys who have not committed to any school yet, nor have they publicly set a commitment date. In this group of five, Sebastian Mack has announced a final group, UCLA, Sacramento State, Florida State, UNLV, and Oklahoma. The expectation with him is that he will commit during the early period, but He has not set a public date. The others I expect to sign late; however, that expectation is not certainty.

I should also note that four-star SF Kris Parker announced he would be committing on Decmber 15, which is after the early signing period ends.
