Eddie George joins Shaq, throws support behind Deion Sanders to Cowboys
Eddie George is all-in on Shaquille O’Neal’s memo that Deion Sanders should be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
Two seasons into his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys, Mike McCarthy has not delivered on expectations, stringing together a losing season in 2020 after Dak Prescott’s injury, and improving — but failing to meet expectations — in 2021. The Cowboys clinched their first NFL Playoff berth since 2018 by winning the NFC East, but Dallas was bounced in the first round, which was chalked up in large part to McCarthy’s decision-making. Now, after Shaq suggested that Sanders takes over the franchise for which he used to play, George is hopping on board.
“I mean if I’m the owner and I look at it, I would say, ‘Why not?'” George said, via TMZ. “I’d look at it seriously. Why wouldn’t you?”
As of now, the Cowboys have given no indication that McCarthy’s job is in question. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite, as Jerry Jones and Cowboys brass have reassured that he will return; still, George and O’Neal both made the case for Sanders to take over.
“Prime has done an amazing job so far at Jackson State,” George said. “He’s a culture changer. He knows what he wants, he’s been very successful in all levels. He’s a winner.”
Shaq pushes Jerry Jones to name Deion Sanders next Dallas Cowboys head coach
Two seasons into his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys, Mike McCarthy has not delivered on expectations. Last season saw a miserable losing season without quarterback Dak Prescott and this year produced another disappointing early playoff loss.
There have been talks of a coaching change, even though vice president Stephen Jones has denied the rumors. However, Shaq had an interesting idea as to who should take over the Cowboys — former cornerback Deion Sanders.

“I’m putting this out right now,” Shaq said on The Big Podcast With Shaq. “Deion Sanders is the next head coach for the Cowboys. Jerry Jones, this message is from Shaquille O’Neal Incorporated, Deion Sanders for the next coach to Cowboys.
“You want the Dallas back rocking. Bring Deion to the fold. Deion will hold those players accountable. Deion Sanders for the next Cowboys coach. Put it out, Tweet it, dammit. TikTok it, Instagram it, OnlyFans it, put it out.”
Sanders played with the star on his helmet for five seasons, being a part of a Super Bowl during the 1995 season. Jerry Jones made him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the league when he signed during free agency so the relationship between the two is there.
From a coaching perspective, Sanders has done a great job at Jackson State, on and off the field. The Tigers are 15-5 during the two seasons the former NFL star has been on campus, winning the SWAC this past season. Sanders has been able to recruit at a level no HBCU has ever seen ever, bringing in two top 100 prospects during the 2022 cycle.
As to what Sanders’ next career move is yet to be seen. A bigger job could present itself inside of college football but if the Jones family wants to listen to Shaq, it would be quite the step up for Prime Time.
