After Senior Bowl preparations throughout the week, many former college football stars are quickly rising up NFL Draft boards. One of those players is former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt. ESPN NFL Draft experts Todd McShay and Jeremy Fowler are both high on Wyatt, especially after his strong showing throughout this week.

Wyatt did not play in the Senior Bowl on Saturday due to an ankle injury. Even without playing in the game, he still had a strong enough showing during the week that could solidify his status as a first round draft pick.

“It was interesting to see Wyatt command the attention of spectators this week,” Fowler said. “His power and quickness were evident.”

“Some defensive linemen are all hands,” added McShay. “Some are all about quickness and speed. But Wyatt ties his feet and hands together so well. His feet are always moving while he’s working on blockers with his upper-body strength. He was already in the first-round conversation coming into the Senior Bowl, but he put a stamp on it this week.”

Wyatt could be one of the biggest sleepers in the 2022 NFL Draft

On Georgia’s national championship winning team this season, Wyatt totaled 29 tackles with 2.5 sacks and two forced fumble. In his four-year collegiate career with the Bulldogs, Wyatt racked up 113 tackles with three passes defended, five sacks and two forced fumbles.

Even though Wyatt played on a loaded Georgia defense, especially up front, McShay has previously said that Wyatt was the most consistent player on the unit.

“Devonte Wyatt for Georgia, defensive tackle. We talked about Jordan Davis all season long. He’s 340 pounds, he’s big, he moves well for his size and he was getting more pass rush pressure. But Devonte Wyatt was probably the most consistent performer on that defensive front and he’s a little bit more of kind of that three technique,” McShay said. “He can get off a block, he can penetrate up the field.

“When you look at his size, he’s 6’3, 315 pounds. So pretty close to prototypical size. 39 tackles on the season, really good and active versus the run. Only had 2.5 sacks, but when you watch Georgia over and over again, you see he’s kind of the guy that’s always wreaking havoc and pushing quarterbacks off of their spot. So the production’s there, the size and agility’s there. He forced a couple of fumbles this past year as well, so Devonte Wyatt of a great defensive line group may be the best in this year’s class at the Senior Bowl this season.”

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah was also high on Wyatt after Senior Bowl week, naming him one of ten winners from the event. Wyatt might be doing enough to garner first round status in the upcoming draft.
