WATCH: Randy Moss shares advice with Bears receiver Allen Robinson

There are perks to playing on Monday Night Football — outside of being on the national stage, of course. For Allen Robinson, he was able to get advice from Hall of Famer-turned-ESPN analyst Randy Moss.

Robinson is having a down year in the Chicago Bears’ offense. Heading into Monday’s game, he had 26 receptions for 271 yards and one touchdown in eight games. On Monday Night Countdown, Moss shared the advice he gave to Robinson, who’s playing on the franchise tag this season.

“Me and Allen Robinson go way back over the last couple years of just training in the offseason,” Moss said. “I just asked him, ‘What’s been going on?’ I just said, ‘Your high for this year’s a little bit over 34 yards, what’s been the problem?’ He just said, ‘Just trying to get the young rookie adjusted to the game of the National Football league.’ I said, ‘Well, he needs a veteran like you, so stay with him and always stay positive.’ He gave me a thumbs up and gave me some love at the end.”

Moss’ advice must’ve worked. Robinson caught four passes for 68 yards Monday night — his best showing of the year. He’s a big reason the Bears nearly pulled off the upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although Pittsburgh won 29-27, Robinson and Bears quarterback Justin Fields showed plenty of good things.

Fields completed 17 of 29 passes for 291 yards, including a 39-yard pass to Robinson in the fourth quarter. That pass set up a touchdown pass from Fields to Darnell Mooney to put the Bears ahead 27-26.

But they left 1:46 on the clock. That proved to be too much time, Chris Boswell to made the 40-yard game-winning field goal with 26 seconds left.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were preparing to punt the football after the Bears got a sack on third down, only to have Chicago commit a taunting penalty. Linebacker Cassius Marsh brought down Ben Roethlisberger for the sack, and was flagged for taunting after taking a few steps towards the Pittsburgh bench.

The penalty drew immediate criticism from fans and the Monday Night Football broadcast crew, as it was unclear exactly what Marsh was flagged for. The replay showed that Marsh did not appear to be saying anything, and was looking to the Steelers’ bench and not at the players running onto the field for the punt.

Officials appeared to flag him for his approach to the bench, but the broadcast crew for ESPN was quick to point out that he was still near the center of the field and not anywhere close to the Steelers sideline.
