The speed cranked up in the 40-yard dash at the 2023 NFL Combine on Friday as defensive backs took to the turf track to get timed. And some of the times clocked were blazing.

One player, Michigan’s DJ Turner, broke into the 4.2 range, running a 4.27 second unofficial 40 on his first crack. He chose to sit back and rest on his time, rather than doing a second sprint.

All told, seven corners who ran at the NFL combine completed the 40-yard dash in under 4.4 seconds.

Turner was expected by many to be among the fastest players at the position, but he outpaced all the other first tries by nearly five hundredths of a second. An impressive feat compared to the field.

Experience the 4.2 speed for yourself.

Turner ultimately chose to sit tight and rest on his 4.27 40-yard dash. He then chose to sit back and not participate in the rest of the combine drills in Indianapolis. He will presumably workout and do drills for pro teams at the Michigan pro day in a number of weeks.
