Damar Hamlin’s father — Mario Hamlin — met with the entire Buffalo Bills team and provided an update on his son and their teammate on Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter on ESPN.

“Damar Hamlin’s father, Mario Hamlin, addressed the entire Bills team on a zoom call Wednesday to personally update everyone in attendance on his son, per source,” tweeted Schefter. “Mario Hamlin informed the Bills that Damar was making progress and, in the words of one source, ‘the team needed it.'”

It’s fantastic news to hear Mario Hamlin was able to tell the Bills about his son’s progress, and it was sure to be a huge pick-me-up for his teammates, who’s minds have not strayed from their teammate’s well-being.

During Buffalo’s Monday Night Football Game against Cincinnati, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after making a tackle. In one of the scariest moments in NFL history, Hamlin required an AED and CPR on the field to resuscitate him, before he was rushed to a local Cincinnati hospital. Since then, he’s been in critical condition.

The game was suspended and won’t be played this week.

Moreover, the news of Mario Hamlin’s positive update comes after a family representative for the family of Damar Hamlin gave a positive statement on the safety’s health to the public, saying that he is progressing in a positive direction.

Jordon Rooney, a representative for the family, spoke to the Associated Press by phone, giving the positive update.

“They are elated right now,” Rooney said. “Damar is still their first concern. But for them, they always look at how they can turn a somewhat troubling situation into a good one. The bounce back from this, for him and his family is going to be incredible.”

That’s as positive as anyone could have asked for in this terrible situation. He’s obviously not through the woods yet, but it’s great to see that he’s improving.

Pat Narduzzi’s statement on Damar Hamlin

Damar Hamlin played his college football at Pitt for Pat Narduzzi. After the incident on the field, Pat Narduzzi joined the long list of those who spoke about Hamlin and what he means to them.

“Damar Hamlin is far more than just a football player,” Narduzzi said.

“He’s a loving son, brother and friend. Damar is a hero to thousands of Pittsburgh kids. Damar, we love. We are praying for you. Pittsburgh’s always had your back. And now it’s obvious the entire country has your back too.”

Concern remains for Damar Hamlin. There are well wishes, thoughts, prayers, and donations coming in from around the country to him. Now, there are also several vigilsplanned for him as he fights to recover.
