Former Alabama football star Jarran Reed signed with the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The six-year NFL veteran previously spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs before becoming a free agent this offseason.

Jarran Reed joins the Green Bay Packers defensive line which already features two-time Pro Bowler Kenny Clark, making them a force in the NFC North this season. Over his career, Reed has 217 tackles with 23.5 sacks, six pass deflections and three forced fumbles.

He was drafted No. 49 overall in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, where he spent five seasons before an offseason trade to the Chiefs before last season. Now on the open market, Pelissero reports Reed visited Green Bay on Tuesday and opted to stay and sign for the Packers.

Packers offseason moves

While fans of the Green Bay Packers might be saddened by the trade of All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, there is a silver lining in the deal. According to NFL reporter Tom Silverstein, the trade of Adams made way for the Packers to bring back one of their better players on the defensive side of the ball.

“The #Packers officially announced the signing of CB Rasul Douglas. Interesting part of it is that they wouldn’t have been able to do the deal if WR Davante Adams hadn’t been traded,” wrote Silverstein via Twitter.

On Saturday, the Packers also agreed to terms with veteran defensive back Rasul Douglas, giving him a three-year deal. The deal is worth $21 million, up to $25.5 million with incentives included. This is obviously a huge move for a cornerback who clearly earned it based on his 2021 performance.

This past season, he enjoyed a bit of a breakout campaign for the Green Bay Packers. Douglas grabbed five interceptions this season, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He also had 57 tackles and one tackle for loss, in addition to a career-high 13 passes defended.

Along with the ability to bring back Douglas, the Packers also received a first and second-round pick in this year’s draft from the Raiders for Adams. That gives Green Bay four picks in the top 60 of the upcoming draft. And with this draft being loaded at wide receiver, the Packers can do something they have never done in the Aaron Rodgers era and take a receiver in the first round; maybe even two.
