Former Alabama player, current New York Giants' defender suspended
Ryan Anderson, a former Alabama Crimson Tide player and current member of the New York Giants, has been suspended by the NFL. The suspension is without pay, and for the first six games of the 2021 season.
On Twitter, the New York Giants shared a statement from an NFL spokesperson on the matter.
“Ryan Anderson of the New York Giants has been suspended without pay for the first six games of the regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Performance Enhancing Substances,” the statement read. “He will be able to participate in Sunday’s final preseason game.
“Anderson will be eligible to return to the Giants’ active roster on Monday, Oct. 18th, following the team’s Week 6 game vs. the Los Angeles Rams.”
After missing the beginning of training camp with a back injury, the Giants waived Anderson on August 9th. However, they brought him back the very next day, citing the release as procedural matter related to his contract.
Ryan Anderson’s NFL Career
At the onset of his career, Anderson was drafted by the Washington Football Team in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Prior to joining New York, he’s spent his entire career with Washington’s franchise.

In 52 games with the team, he recorded 86 tackles, five forced fumbles, 15 QB hits, six sacks and one pass defensed.
In college at Alabama, Anderson had a great relationship with then-Crimson Tide defensive coach, Jeremy Pruitt. Moreover, this off-season, Anderson followed Pruitt to New York, as the latter joined the staff as a defensive assistant.
Currently, the Giants are preparing for their final preseason game, a matchup with the New England Patriots. Afterward, they’ll try to have their first winning season in years as the regular season gets going.
By virtue of his suspension, Anderson will miss games against the Denver Broncos, Washington Football Team, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams.
